Tom Bowden

Percussionist

Tom Bowden is a performing percussionist and educator based in the Miami area.  Regionally, he has performed with the New World Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Florida Symphony, Orchestra Miami, Miami Symphony Orchestra, South Florida Symphony, and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.  He has attended the National Orchestral Institute and Miami Summer Music Festival where he performed under conductors Leonard Slatkin, John Morris Russell, Christopher Seaman, Grzegorz Nowak, and Michael Rossi.  In addition to his performing work, he currently is a band director at Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts and teaches percussion at the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts.  Before living in Miami, he  resided in Philadelphia, PA and Michigan where he performed with Symphony in C, the Lansing Symphony, and the Southwest Michigan Symphony.  During his time in Philadelphia, he was on faculty as a percussion teacher at the Settlement Music School.  Tom holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in percussion performance from the University of Miami.  His prior percussion studies took place at the University of Michigan for his Bachelor's degree in percussion performance and Temple University for his Master's degree  in percussion performance.
